Be who you are. NOT who the world wants you to be.

Okay so firstly crazy story, I went to write this post I've been thinking of doing for a while and found I already wrote and published it?!?!!!

I know it's a little late to talk about New Year's Resolutions but that's what I wanted to talk about (for the second time it seems...)

Sometimes it feels like the world has such an influence on us, on what we wear, how we act, what we think, say, do, and the world has this idea about who we are or at least who we should be... but what if that person just isn't who we are inside?

I find it so hard when the person we're trying to be isn't who we want to be, but we feel we need to be that person so to not upset people, to fit in, to not be different. For me, I feel like I'm always saying things to people I don't mean, doing things I don't want to do, going along with ideas, never saying my opinion, never having an opinion because it feels like I can't disagree with people or be different or just be myself.

Over years and years of this happening I've forgotten it's okay to be different. It's okay to have a different opinion to someone else, after all it is an opinion. It's okay to dress differently, think differently, act differently and be different.

I don't often make New Year's Resolutions, but this year I am.

TO BE MYSELF.

To not worry about what other people think, not worry about what other people say, not worry about difference in opinions, not worry about anything but just be myself.

We can't spend our whole lives trying to be someone else, someone needs to realise we just can't. So this year that's what I'm gonna do. Stop trying to be someone else. Stop changing myself for others, stop letting others control me and just be myself and attempt to be happy with myself for once in my life.

I've changed my laptop wallpaper to a photo from one of my previous inspiration posts as a constant reminder of this:

I just love this quote. Who we are and who the world wants us to be are sometimes very different and it's hard to know which one we should be.

But we should just be ourselves, and if people have a problem with that then that's their problem. If they can't respect our opinions, thoughts, feelings, that's their problem and NOT ours. And we should NOT change ourselves to fit other people.

Be who you are. NOT who the world wants you to be.
