Top 10 Books
I thought I'd share with you guys my favourite books at the moment!! Some are recent, some are old, some are... in the middle?? It was SO hard to put them into an order but I've tried to, and here they are!!:
10. A Dancer in Wartime by Gillian Lynne
This is a book I often read, it inspires me to dance and makes me so emotional every time!! It's the autobiography of Gillian Lynne, choreographer of Cats and The Phantom of the Opera, and many other famous West End musicals. She is an amazing dancer and I find her so inspirational, the story is so touching and I would definitely recommend this to ANYONE who loves ballet and reading!!
9. Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfeild
This is a classic, and again a book about ballet!! (They won't all be, I promise!!) It is the story of the Fossil Sisters, Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil. They are all adopted and grow up a happy life until money runs out. and they have to try to find ways of surviving until GUM (Great Uncle Matthew) comes home. I love this book SO much and since I first read it a couple of years ago I've read it so many times and watched the movie (with Emma Watson) countless times!! Me and my friend are both SO obsessed with it that our names on our phones for each other are Posy and Pauline Fossil!!!!
8. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
This is a real classic, but one I'd never read until very recently!! This is seriously an amazing book and is absolutely genius, SERIOUSLY if you haven't read it, read it!! I'd heard about it, obviously, but never actually got round to reading it until I found the whole series in one book for 20p!!! I bought it, obviously, and have almost read them all!! I've got the silver chair and the last battle to go, but everyone's left Narnia so I don't know whether I'll read them or not straight away... maybe someday!!
7. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
So this is again a classic.... wait so they started off as ballet books and now they're all classics... again I promise they won't all be!! So Black Beauty was a book I read in primary school and have read SO many times since!! It's the autobiography of a horse (Black Beauty) in the 1870's and about all the hardships a horse had to face when he leaves his perfect life with his mother. I have the movie too, and although I prefer the book I've watched it so many times too!! The only problem is that I CAN'T read it without crying for hours... so sad and happy and emotional!! :) :( :)
6. Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
My friend lent me this... a few months ago?? and its SUCH a good book!! It's about a girl called Meggie who finds out her father has a special talent - he can read aloud and whatever he is reading comes to life. It's SUCH a good book and I honestly couldn't put it down!! It's the first in a Trilogy (Funnily enough the Inkheart Trilogy!!!) and the whole trilogy is so good!! I would definitely recommend them to anyone!!
5. The Lady's Maid by Dilly Court
I've read this countless times!! It's about a girl called Kate, grown up in a poor family but with a wealthy friend (Josie). She finds out the truth about her past and falls in love with the wrong people, and has to amend all the mistakes she's made in the past. It's a historical fiction (my favourite!!) and its SO good!! If you like historical fiction and see a Dilly Court book PICK IT UP!!! She's an amazing author and I haven't read a bad book of hers yet!! (There's a first time for everything... but I don't think that'll happen with her books!!) I've read several by her, and would definitely recommend them!!
4. Divergent by Veronica Roth
I'm sure you've heard of the Divergent Trilogy, and they seriously are amazing!! It's about a world where society is split into 5 factions, Amity (the kind/peaceful), Candor (the honest), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless) and Dauntless (the brave). It follows Tris (or Beatrice) as she has to choose which faction she goes into when she turns 16. She has to decide whether to stay with her family or do what she wants to do. It's really good and I seriously recommend the whole trilogy!! (Although Allegient made me cry so much :( )
3. Curses and Smoke: A Novel of Pompeii by Vicky Alvear Shecter
This isn't a very well known book, but is so good!! It's about Pompeii (obviously) and about Lucia, the rich man's daughter, and Tag, the medicinal slave owned by Lucia's father. Lucia is betrothed to a man she doesn't want to marry, and instead falls in love with someone her father will never agree with. Tag wants to be a gladiator, but his father was a medical slave and he was brought up to do the same. When Vesuvius erupts they have to try and escape before either the fire or Lucia's father catches them!! It's SUCH a good book, especially if you love historical fictions!! The one thing that makes it stand out from a lot of other books is that in almost every chapter it has a countdown, so 3 months before, 4 days before, 2 hours before etc. and at first you assume it's until Vesuvius erupts but the ending surprised me SO much and left me in tears for hours afterwards!! Would definitely recommend this :)
2. Flowers in the Attic by Virginia Andrews
Honestly, read this. NOW. My mum bought the whole series for me as she LOVED them when she was my age, and I love them too!! It's about 4 children, Chris (14), Cathy (12), Carrie and Cory (5, twins) who due to tragic circumstances find themselves locked in an attic for their lives after their father dies, waiting for their grandfather to die so they can be let out. They have to live by the Grandmother's many rules and live with the pain of their mother eventually being too tempted by riches and forgetting about them. It's SUCH a good book, and again is SO emotional!! I'l recommend the WHOLE series, but this one is by far the best!! Although the prequel (Garden of Shadows) is SO good to read, but make sure you read it after Flowers in the Attic!! (If you read them you'll understand why, it changes your whole view on everything!!)
1. HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN by J.K. ROWLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course Harry Potter is #1!!! I found it so hard not to have 7 of the Harry Potter books and 3 others... but I settled on one!! If I had to choose one it would definitely be the Prisoner of Azkaban as it's my favourite out the whole series!! I won't get started on Harry Potter now, that'll be a whole different post!!
There it is... My 10 favourite books at the moment!! One other I want to talk about is Entangled by Cat Clarke, and that's probably my favourite book at the moment to be completely honest!! I haven't had it long so thought I'd keep this list to books I've read over and over for months/years/lifetimes (in the case of Harry Potter) so Entangled didn't quite make the list!! But that's another one I'd recommend!!
Thanks for reading.... it's been a long post!!
KellyKat :) x
P.S. Reading this though before I publish it I realised I put about Pompeii erupting... Seriously Keely?? The town is Pompeii and the mountain (or volcano I guess) is Vesuvius!! I can be stupid sometimes....
